Guterres emphasized Pope Francis’ commitment to social justice and equality, citing his encyclical Fratelli Tutti and his efforts to address issues of greed, poverty, and inequality.
The UN Secretary-General also recalled Pope Francis’ unwavering support for migrants and refugees, noting his visit to Lampedusa in 2013 to raise awareness about their plight and his calls for compassion and solidarity.
