Celebrate Workers’ Day in Italy with a Vibrant Free Concert in Rome.
Labour Day in Italy, a national public holiday, is commemorated with a lively free concert in Rome’s newly-renovated Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano on 1 May.
This year, the Festa dei Lavoratori or Festa del Lavoro falls on a Thursday, granting Italy’s schools and public offices a day off and providing many Italians with a “ponte” long weekend.
Referred to as the “concertone,” this annual concert is touted as Europe’s largest free music event, showcasing established Italian musicians alongside up-and-coming talents.
Organized by Italy’s trade unions, the concert serves as a platform to advocate for workers’ rights, addressing issues such as gender discrimination and workplace safety.
Running from 15:00 until midnight, the concert will be broadcast live on Rai3, Radio2, and RaiPlay.
The 2025 lineup boasts approximately 40 acts including Achille Lauro, Lucio Corsi, Gabry Ponte, The Kolors, Arisa, Carl Brave, Rocco Hunt, MimÃ, Gaia, Leo Gassman, and Brunori Sas.
The Primo Maggio event will lead to several traffic diversions in the vicinity on Monday, along with the closure of the S. Giovanni metro station.
For subway commuters, it is recommended to disembark at either Manzoni or Re di Roma stations.
