Welcome to the latest update from the Vatican! The College of Cardinals has made an exciting announcement regarding the upcoming conclave to elect a new Pope.
All 133 Cardinal electors taking part in the conclave have been granted the right to cast their vote for the next Pope. This decision was revealed in a declaration released by the Holy See Press Office, following a meeting of the Cardinals in the General Congregation.
The declaration clarifies that while the apostolic constitution Universi Dominici Gregis initially limited the voting rights to 120 Cardinals, the late Pope Francis expanded this number by creating additional Cardinals under the age of 80. As a result, all Cardinals present in the conclave, regardless of the set limit, are now authorized to participate in the election of the Roman Pontiff.
Furthermore, the Cardinals expressed their gratitude to Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Becciu, who voluntarily chose to abstain from joining the upcoming conclave. His decision, made in the interest of the Church’s well-being and to maintain harmony during the election process, was commended by the congregation.
The Cardinals also expressed their hope that the appropriate legal authorities will thoroughly investigate the allegations of corruption surrounding Cardinal Becciu, ensuring transparency and justice.
