Welcome to the world of dance! Every April 29th, dancers and enthusiasts worldwide come together to celebrate International Dance Day. It’s a day to honor and appreciate the art form that beautifully combines expression, discipline, and beauty. Dance not only strengthens the body but also educates character, teaches discipline, and uplifts the soul.
Recently, I had the privilege of attending a mesmerizing dance performance in my city. One particular moment stood out to me – a girl with autistic traits took to the stage and captivated the audience with her joyful presence. Despite any limitations, she radiated happiness and grace, showcasing how dance can truly liberate and bring out the best in an individual.
However, this experience also sparked a crucial reflection on the importance of the type of artistic education we provide to our children. Unfortunately, many dance academies today promote a distorted image of dance, focusing on expensive costumes and choreography that exaggerates sexualized gestures.
It’s vital to emphasize the essence of dance that combines both strength and delicacy, especially in classical ballet. This balance of strength in technique and delicacy in movement is not only characteristic of ballet but also inherent in women – firm yet gentle, resilient yet loving.
When dance education strays from this balance, it can have damaging effects beyond the stage. Girls may carry these distorted gestures and attitudes into their daily lives, impacting their relationships and self-perception. It’s essential to seek out academies that teach with rigor and respect, preserving innocence and dignity.
Dance is a reflection of God’s beauty, and when taught well, it instills respect for oneself and others. Investing in academies that uphold true dance values is an investment in sowing freedom, truth, and love through the art form.
