Welcome to the Sixth General Congregation of the College of Cardinals!
Excitement is in the air as the College of Cardinals gathers for their sixth General Congregation on Tuesday morning. With 183 Cardinals in attendance, including over 120 Cardinals electors, the discussions were filled with diverse perspectives and insights on the challenges facing the Church.
Themes related to the Church’s future and possible responses were passionately discussed, reflecting the different regions and continents represented by the Cardinals. Despite two Cardinal electors unable to attend due to health reasons, the unity and dedication of the College remained strong.
In a show of gratitude, the College of Cardinals released a message to the world, acknowledging the support and participation in recent events. As the conclave approaches on May 7, preparations are in full swing.
Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, will lead the votive Mass for the Election of the Pope (Pro Eligendo Papa) at 10:00 AM in St. Peter’s Basilica. The conclave will officially commence at 4:30 PM with a prayer service in the Pauline Chapel.
As the Cardinal electors solemnly enter the Sistine Chapel, they will sing the Veni Creator and pledge to uphold the Munus Petrinum with absolute secrecy regarding the conclave proceedings.
