Welcome to the Historic Event: Funeral of Pope Francis
Witness history in the making as Radio Vaticana – Vatican News broadcasts the funeral of Pope Francis in 15 languages, including four sign languages. The live coverage will include the funeral mass in St. Peter’s Square and the subsequent procession to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. Both aerial and ground shots will be provided by the Vatican Television Center – Vatican Media.
This event evokes memories of April 8, 2005, the day of the funeral mass for Pope John Paul II, but it also marks a unique moment in contemporary media as the transfer of a Pope’s remains from the Vatican to another location for burial has never been documented before.
Tomorrow, on April 26, starting at 10 AM, Radio Vaticana – Vatican News will broadcast live the entire funeral celebration of Pope Francis until his interment in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, as per his wishes.
Global and Inclusive Coverage
To make the event accessible to a wider audience, the Vatican media will provide live broadcasts in 15 languages, including Italian, English, Spanish, French, Portuguese (including Brazilian), German, Polish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Arabic, and four sign languages: Italian, Spanish, French, and American (ASL).
Television footage, managed by the Vatican Television Center – Vatican Media, will capture every moment of the event, both in St. Peter’s Square and along the route to the Marian Basilica.
Editorially, reports and analyses will be available in 56 languages, matching the integrated information system of Radio Vaticana – Vatican News and L’Osservatore Romano.
