Welcome to the Third General Congregation of the College of Cardinals!
On the morning of April 24, 2025, 113 cardinals from around the world gathered in the Vatican for this momentous occasion. The meeting took place in the New Synod Hall, starting promptly at 9:00 a.m. and wrapping up at noon after a brief break.
The day began with a communal prayer, symbolizing unity and a readiness to listen to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Throughout the meeting, several cardinals took the oath of fidelity as outlined in the Apostolic Constitution Universi Dominici Gregis, which governs the Conclave and its preceding congregations.
Throughout the session, there were 34 interventions addressing various concerns, hopes, and proposals for the universal Church. Topics ranged from the challenges of evangelization to the cultural and social issues of our time, emphasizing the importance of a renewed witness of faith and charity.
One of the key decisions made during the meeting was the appointment of Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández to preside over the Eucharistic celebration on the sixth day of the Novendials, a series of Masses held after the death of a Pope.
These congregations serve not only as a way to organize but also as a demonstration of ecclesial communion. They provide a platform for cardinals to share their perspectives, listen to one another, and prepare for the eventual Conclave.
This forum for fraternal dialogue and spiritual discernment showcases the commitment of the College of Cardinals to the present and future of the Church, always seeking guidance from Christ and the Holy Spirit.
