Welcome to the latest update on the funeral arrangements for the late Pope Francisco. On Monday, Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, Camarlengo of the Holy Roman Church, oversaw the recognition of death and the placement of the Pope’s body in his coffin, as per the Ordo Exsequiarum Romani Pontificis (nos 21-40).
The body of Pope Francisco will be taken to the Basilica of San Pedro on Wednesday at 9:00 am for the funeral viewing. The funeral itself will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am. Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the Cardinal College, will lead the funeral mass, attended by dignitaries from around the world.
The funeral service will conclude with the Ultima Commendatio and the Valedictio, marking the start of the Novemdiales, a period of mourning and remembrance for Pope Francisco’s soul.
Following the funeral, the Pope’s body will be interred at both the Basilica de San Pedro and the Basilica de Santa María la Mayor.
On April 23, Cardinal Kevin Farrell will oversee the transfer of the Pope’s body from Casa Santa Marta to the Basilica of San Pedro. The procession will pass through various landmarks before reaching the Vatican Basilica.

The funeral proceedings will be followed by the exequial Mass at the Basilica, led by the Cardinal Dean King. The Pope’s coffin will then be transferred to the Basilica de San Pedro and later to the Basilica de Santa María la Mayor for burial.
On Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10:00 am, the Exequial Mass for Pope Francisco will take place at the Basilica of San Pedro. Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re will preside over the solemn liturgy, with various state and government officials in attendance.
