Exciting News: U.S. President Donald Trump to Attend Pope Francis’ Funeral in Rome
President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will be attending the funeral of Pope Francis in Rome. In a post on Truth Social, the President mentioned, “[First Lady] Melania and I will be going to the funeral of Pope Francis, in Rome. We look forward to being there!”
Earlier in the day, Trump had ordered all federal and state flags to be flown at half-staff as a sign of respect for Pope Francis and to honor his memory following the pontiff’s passing at the age of 88.
Trump also paid tribute to Pope Francis in another post on Truth Social, saying, “Rest in peace Pope Francis!”
Blessings be upon him and all who held him dear!
The proclamation made on April 21 by President Trump was a gesture of reverence towards the late Pope Francis. The flags will be lowered to half-staff until sunset today to honor his memory.
This order applies to the White House, all public buildings, military posts, naval stations, naval vessels, and embassies.
During the White House Easter Egg Roll event, President Trump described the Pope as a hardworking and good man, stating, “He loved the world, and it’s an honor to acknowledge that.”
At the same event, Trump conveyed his message to Catholics, expressing, “We love you all, we stand by you.” He also acknowledged the strong support he received from Catholics during the election and expressed his sympathy for their loss.
When questioned about the future relationship between the United States and the next pope, Trump expressed optimism, believing it will be “very good.”
While Trump follows nondenominational Christian beliefs, his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, is Catholic. The couple met Pope Francis in May 2017 during Trump’s first term in office.
