With the aim of enhancing the journey of pilgrims heading to Rome for the 2025 Jubilee Year of Hope, the Fabric of St. Peter has undertaken various restoration and innovation projects.
The Fabric of St. Peter is responsible for the preservation and upkeep of St. Peter’s Basilica and its surroundings.
A recent press conference unveiled the restoration efforts, technological advancements, and security upgrades, including a new evacuation strategy for St. Peter’s Basilica.
The restoration work focused on the monuments housing the tombs of popes Paul III and Urban VIII, as well as illuminating the necropolis, archaeological rooms, and Vatican grottoes.
A new evacuation plan, developed through collaboration with the Italian Fire Department and the Governorate of Vatican City State, has been put in place.
Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, the archpriest of St. Peter’s Basilica, emphasized that the projects aim to honor the faith of pilgrims and visitors, ensuring their safety and protection within the basilica.
As St. Peter’s Basilica welcomes 12 million visitors annually, Gambetti stressed the importance of providing a safe environment for all.
