The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes in France has officially announced the proclamation of the 72nd miracle that has occurred in the place since 1858. The proclamation was made by Monsignor Vincenzo Carmine Orofino, bishop of the diocese of Tursi-Lagonegro (Matera).
Antonietta Raco, who suffered from primary lateral sclerosis, “was healed in 2009 during a pilgrimage to Lourdes with the Italian organization Unitalsi,” as reported by the sanctuary. Raco is now 67 years old.
She had been followed for a long time by the Department of Neurosciences in Turin due to severe headaches that began in 2004.
Over the years, her condition worsened until the summer pilgrimage of 2009 when she “experienced an unusual sense of well-being,” as she herself had recounted.
“A scientifically inexplicable phenomenon, which I myself will take time to process,” declared neurologist Adriano Chiò of the Molinette Hospital in Turin, who was the patient’s doctor for ALS.
In 2010, the process began to verify if the healing was of a miraculous nature. After 14 years, in November 2024, the International Medical Committee of Lourdes declared the healing of the Italian pilgrim as “unexpected, complete, lasting, and inexplicable.” The bishop of Lourdes informed the Lucanian diocese. And finally, today, the official proclamation of the 72nd miracle.
