Welcome to the final day of the 2025 “Lenten Talks” at the Parish of San Cosme and San Damián in Burgos. Today, we reflect on the events of Easter Sunday, a day of great significance in the Christian calendar.
Easter Sunday marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. The Gospel accounts tell us that Jesus appeared first to Mary Magdalene, who went on to tell his companions about his resurrection. However, they did not believe her at first. Jesus then appeared to two others who were walking in the countryside, but they too were met with disbelief. Finally, Jesus appeared to the Eleven disciples and instructed them to go forth and proclaim the Gospel to all creation.
As the Lenten talks come to a close, we reach the pinnacle of our liturgical journey with the celebration of Easter Sunday. This day is not just an ending, but a new beginning – a new life inaugurated by Christ.
The resurrection of Jesus is a transformative event. His disciples, who were once fearful and hidden, become bold witnesses of his resurrection. They encounter a living, breathing Jesus who has conquered death forever.
This encounter with the risen Christ marks the beginning of authentic Christianity. It is not merely a set of beliefs or doctrines, but a personal relationship with Christ himself. This encounter transforms us and introduces us to the life of God within us.
As we reflect on the Easter journey, we are reminded of the transformative power of grace. A true Christian, filled with grace, radiates joy and love, transforming their environment and inspiring others to seek the same.
As we conclude this Easter journey, we look to Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows, who becomes the Glorious Lady. She exemplifies the perfect correspondence to grace and serves as a model for us to follow.
