Welcome to the heartwarming story of Snehdeep Holy Cross Residential School in Jharkhand, a beacon of hope for children affected by HIV/AIDS in a country where stigma still runs deep.
Founded in 2014 by Sister Britto Madassery, a compassionate nurse, the school has grown from serving 45 students to now catering to 230 children, proving that perseverance and empathy can break through barriers.
A Mission Rooted in Compassion
The journey of Snehdeep Holy Cross Residential School began when Sister Britto and her fellow sisters witnessed the hardships faced by children living with HIV/AIDS. Motivated by the heartbreaking stories of these children, Sr. Britto decided to dedicate her life to their cause.
Despite facing stigma and challenges, the school was established in 2014 with the support of various organizations and individuals who believed in the mission of providing education, healthcare, and a safe haven for these children.
Building from the Ground Up
Despite facing resistance and obstacles, Sr. Britto’s unwavering determination paid off. With the support of a Hindu Swami, an Australian Jesuit, and other benefactors, the school found its home in Banahappa in 2017. Today, the school continues to thrive, providing essential support to children affected by HIV/AIDS.
Education and a Future Beyond Stigma
Snehdeep Holy Cross Residential School offers holistic development opportunities to children, ensuring they receive education, healthcare, vocational training, and character formation. The school nurtures each child’s talents and helps them realize their full potential.
Efforts are underway to expand the school’s education up to the tenth grade, providing a path for these children to a brighter future beyond the shadows of stigma.
A Well-Deserved Recognition
In 2024, Sr. Britto was honored with the “Sustainability of Mission and Ministry” award for her dedication to uplifting children affected by HIV/AIDS. The media in Hazaribagh also recognized her work, shedding light on the impact of her mission.
Through the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross, Sr. Britto and her team continue to embody compassion in action, creating a new society of hope and inclusivity for the underprivileged.
Snehdeep Holy Cross Residential School stands as a testament to the transformative power of compassion and the impact it can have on the lives of those in need.
