Pope Francis has penned a letter to Opus Dei university students, offering his spiritual support as they come together in Rome for their annual International Congress. The event, which began on Saturday and runs until Easter Sunday, is a significant moment coinciding with the Holy Year dedicated to hope and the 100th anniversary of the priestly ordination of Saint Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer.
Spreading Hope to All
In his message, Pope Francis expresses his joy and prayers for the participants, encouraging them to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ as a message of hope that is rooted in love and never fails to fulfill promises. He concludes with a blessing from Jesus and protection from the Holy Virgin.
About the UNIV Congress
Established in 1968 by Saint Josemaría Escrivá, the UNIV Congress serves as a platform for students from around the world to engage in intellectual and spiritual exchanges. This year’s theme, “Citizens of our World,” has attracted over 2,000 students from 25 countries and 32 universities. Throughout Holy Week, participants will take part in academic sessions, cultural experiences, prayers, and Easter liturgies at St. Peter’s Basilica.
Academic events are scheduled at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, with male and female students meeting on separate days. The Congress aims to foster intellectual growth and spiritual development, encouraging young Catholics to reflect on their roles as active and responsible members of the global community.
