Exciting News: The Holy See to Showcase Pavilion at Venice Architecture Biennale
Get ready for the third consecutive year of the Holy See’s presence at the Venice Architecture Biennale in Italy! This renowned event, known for showcasing contemporary art on a global scale, will take place in Venice from May 10 through Nov. 23. Last year, history was made as Pope Francis became the first pontiff to attend this prestigious event in its nearly 130-year history.
The Vatican recently unveiled its project for the Biennale, which involves the restoration of the Santa Maria Ausiliatrice (Our Lady Help of Christians) building. This historical site will not only be a venue for cultural events, such as concerts, but will also house a space dedicated to solidarity projects and even a soup kitchen.
Visitors to the exhibition will have the unique opportunity to witness the restoration work firsthand on the Santa Maria Ausiliatrice complex. Originally built in the 12th century to provide shelter for pilgrims en route to Rome, this building served as a monastery for Salesian nuns until the early 21st century.
This project aims to engage the citizens of Venice, as well as organizations committed to the environmental sustainability of the city. With Venice facing challenges due to mass tourism, this initiative seeks to bring together the community in preserving the city’s iconic heritage.
