The Holy See Press Office has recently made some exciting announcements, introducing new key appointments within the Vatican. These appointments include the selection of a new female president for the Permanent Commission for the Protection of Historical and Artistic Monuments of the Holy See, as well as a new Archbishop to lead the Military Ordinariate in Italy.
Dr. Elvira Cajano, a visiting Professor at the Faculty of History and Cultural Heritage of the Church at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, has been appointed as the new President of the Permanent Commission for the Protection of Historical and Artistic Monuments of the Holy See. With a background in Architecture and a Ph.D. in History, Drawing, and Restoration of Architecture, Cajano brings a wealth of expertise to her new role. She succeeds Professor Francesco Buranelli, the former Director of the Vatican Museums, in this important position.
On the other hand, Archbishop Gian Franco Saba, who will soon be celebrating his 57th birthday, has been chosen by Pope Francis to lead the Military Ordinariate of Italy. Archbishop Saba, currently serving as Archbishop of Sassari, will be transitioning to this new role. His educational background includes studies at the Pontifical Regional Seminary of Umbria in Assisi and Theological Institute affiliated with the Faculty of Theology of Rome’s Pontifical Lateran University. With a Doctorate in Theology and Patristic Sciences, Archbishop Saba brings a deep understanding of theological matters to his new position.
