The Pope’s convalescence is progressing well, following the doctors’ advice, as revealed by the Holy See Press Office during a recent briefing. This update comes after Pope Francis made a surprise appearance at St. Peter’s Square on Sunday, marking his first public appearance since leaving the hospital.
After celebrating Mass for the Jubilee of the Sick and Healthcare Workers, the Pope greeted the crowd, imparted blessings, and expressed gratitude to the pilgrims. His brief presence was a heartening sight for all those who have been praying for his recovery.
The Press Office shared that Pope Francis is showing positive clinical improvements as he recuperates at Casa Santa Marta after his hospitalization for a polymicrobial infection and bilateral pneumonia. The Holy Father was discharged with a “protected discharge” from Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on Sunday, 23 March.
Continued Progress and Activities
Pope Francis’ health remains stable, with noticeable enhancements in his respiratory, mobility, and voice functions, as witnessed during his recent appearance. He is actively participating in physical therapy for mobility and respiratory issues and requires less supplemental oxygen.
Throughout the day, the Pope receives regular oxygen administration, transitioning to high-flow oxygenation with nasal cannulas as needed at night. Despite his recovery process, Pope Francis remains in good spirits and continues his work duties, including reviewing documents from Dicasteries and engaging in necessary phone conversations.
Additionally, the Pope continues to celebrate daily Mass from the chapel in his residence and remains in contact with the Holy Family parish in Gaza.
Upcoming Plans and Updates
While the General Audience scheduled for 9 April has been canceled, the Pope’s prepared text for the occasion will be shared with journalists. As for his participation in Holy Week liturgies, it is too early to determine.
The next briefing on Pope Francis’ health is scheduled for Friday, 11 April, providing further updates on his recovery and activities.
