Royals Touch Down in Rome for State Visit to Italy
Excitement filled the air as King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived at Rome’s Ciampino airport, accompanied by Italian F-35 fighter jets, marking the beginning of their four-day state visit to Italy.
The royal couple, set to participate in engagements in Rome and Ravenna, were warmly greeted by Italy’s undersecretary for foreign affairs Maria Tripodi, along with Britain’s ambassador to Italy Edward Llewellyn and the Italian ambassador to the UK, Inigo Lambertini.
Despite a recent health scare that led to King Charles, 76, being hospitalized due to side effects from cancer treatment, the resilient monarch bounced back in time for the Italy trip, showing his dedication to fulfilling his royal duties.
After an impressive military escort by Italian fighter jets over Rome’s skies, King Charles and Queen Camilla kicked off their four-day State Visit to Italy. The Vatican leg of the trip had to be canceled due to the Pope’s health.

Buckingham Palace also expressed the royal family’s deep connection with Italy, highlighting their fond memories of past visits to the country. “His Majesty has visited Italy 17 times before while Her Majesty has visited twice, but this marks their first visit as King and Queen,” the Palace stated.
The statement further emphasized the rich history and cultural ties between the UK and Italy, emphasizing the enduring friendship and mutual respect shared between the two nations.
During their stay, the royal couple will engage in a series of 19 activities, with a notable visit to the Colosseum Archaeological Park on the agenda for Tuesday. Public access to the iconic site will be limited during their visit.
