Syria Reacts to Israeli Airstrikes: An Unjustified Escalation
By Nathan Morley
Syria’s foreign ministry has strongly condemned the recent Israeli airstrikes on military targets, labeling them as an “unjustified escalation.” The strikes, which occurred overnight, resulted in significant damage to the Hama airbase and left dozens injured. Tragically, four Syrian defense ministry personnel lost their lives in the attacks.
Israeli officials have confirmed that the airstrikes targeted “remaining capabilities” at Hama and T4 airbases, as well as military infrastructure in Damascus. In addition to the airstrikes, Israeli forces also carried out a ground operation in Deraa province, as reported by local authorities.
Negotiations with Türkiye
These airstrikes come at a critical juncture, with reports indicating that Türkiye is deploying jets and air defense systems to Syrian airbases, including T4. Ankara is currently in talks for a joint defense pact with Syria’s transitional government, a development closely monitored by Israel.
