Themed “Young Catholic, be an actor of peace and social cohesion,” this event provided a platform for the Catholic youth to connect with God, pray for peace, and envision a better future for their nation. Father Eugene Laurence Awouondji, the diocesan chaplain for youth ministry in the Diocese of Abidjan, emphasized the importance of unity and common good among the youth, especially as the elections draw near.
Promoting Unity and Common Good
The Church’s message to the youth was clear: unity and fraternal communion are crucial in times of political turmoil. Father Awouondji reminded the young people that despite their diverse backgrounds, they can advocate for peace and unity by prioritizing the common good. Reflecting on past crises, he urged the youth to reject violence and work towards a peaceful future for Cote d’Ivoire.
Heed the Call of Bishops for Fair Elections
With the presidential elections approaching, the Catholic Bishops in Cote d’Ivoire have expressed concern about the current socio-political climate. Father Norbert-Éric Abékan, the national executive secretary of the Justice, Peace, and Environment Commission, called on political leaders to safeguard the nation’s future and urged the youth to play an active role in promoting peace.
Reject All Forms of Manipulation
In his homily, Father Abékan warned the youth against manipulation and encouraged them to stand firm in their values. He emphasized that peace starts within the heart and urged the youth to promote cohesion and brotherhood in their communities.
A Youth Engaged for Peace
Jean-Noé Gnaba, the president of the youth of the Archdiocese of Abidjan, highlighted the event’s significance as a symbol of unity and commitment to God’s love. He emphasized the importance of youth engagement in building a peaceful society and spreading God’s message of love and peace.
Overall, the mobilization of Abidjan’s young Catholics serves as a powerful reminder of the impact of faith, unity, and prayer in times of uncertainty. Through their collective efforts, these young people are paving the way for a brighter and more peaceful future for their nation.
