Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Saint John Paul II’s Death
On April 2nd, we will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the death of Saint John Paul II with a special Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica. Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, will preside over the ceremony, which will also be attended by Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz, the former personal secretary to Pope Wojtyla.

A Message from Pope Francis
On February 12th, Pope Francis sent a heartfelt letter to Cardinal Dziwisz, extending his blessings to all the faithful participating in the anniversary celebrations. The Holy Father wished for a Jubilee Year filled with peace and hope, invoking the intercession of the Virgin Mary and Saint John Paul II.
Program of Celebrations
The commemorative Mass will take place at 3:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Basilica, open to all without a pass. Following the Mass, a prayer vigil will be held at 9:00 p.m. in St. Peter’s Square, with prayers in Polish and Italian. Monsignor Tadeusz Wojda, president of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, will preside over the vigil and concelebrate the evening liturgy.
