Over five hundred Missionaries of Mercy from various continents including Asia, the Americas, Africa, and Europe have convened for their fourth world meeting in Rome from 28-29 March. Instituted by Pope Francis in 2015 during the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, they now serve as a remarkable symbol of the Church’s compassion towards the People of God. These 1,258 priests possess the unique authority to forgive sins reserved to the Apostolic See, emphasizing the importance of administering the Sacrament of Reconciliation and spreading the message of God’s boundless mercy.

Monsignor Theodore Bertagni, a dedicated Missionary of Mercy, expressed his joy in reuniting with his fellow priests in Rome. He described their gathering as a reunion of “family,” where they share experiences, learn from one another, and grow spiritually together. Father Bernard Olszewski, another Missionary of Mercy from the United States, highlighted the significance of this Jubilee of hope, linking it to the essence of God’s mercy and the promise of a hopeful future. Both Monsignor Bertagni and Father Olszewski are actively involved with Cross Catholic Outreach, a charitable organization that provides aid globally, aligning with their mission of preaching mercy and compassion.

As they participate in the 2025 Jubilee in Rome, Father Olszewski emphasized the importance of hope in today’s fractured world. He believes that this Jubilee serves as a beacon of light, inspiring individuals to be agents of positive change amidst global challenges. Monsignor Bertagni echoed this sentiment, urging for solidarity and prayer for world peace, a cause that aligns with the core values of their ministry of mercy.
In a world filled with turmoil, the Missionaries of Mercy stand as beacons of hope, embodying the message of God’s boundless mercy and the transformative power of reconciliation. Through their dedicated service and unwavering faith, they continue to inspire individuals globally to embrace hope and compassion, making the world a better place one act of mercy at a time.
