Welcome to the world of ‘Open Doors’ – a captivating photo exhibition currently on display at the Casina Pio IV in the Vatican gardens as part of the ongoing Jubilee of Hope. The exhibition features 25 striking photographs captured in diverse locations such as Bangladesh, Benin, Morocco, and the Vatican, each showcasing the theme of open doors.
As Pope Francis kicked off the Catholic Church’s 2025 Jubilee Year by opening the Holy Door in St. Peter’s Basilica on Christmas Eve, pilgrims from around the globe have flocked to Rome to experience the spiritual significance of passing through the city’s four Holy Doors, symbolizing renewal and rebirth.
The ‘Open Doors’ exhibition, in collaboration with Emotions to Create Change and the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communication, offers a unique perspective on the concept of open doors through the lens of nine talented photographers. Each image portrays a different interpretation of open doors, inviting viewers to reflect on the possibilities they represent.
Unlocking Potential
From a picturesque shot in Kayseri, Turkey, capturing an elderly couple strolling past a vibrant blue door, to a nun framed against the archway of St. Peter’s Square, the exhibition explores the theme of open doors in various contexts. Paolo Ruffini, the Prefect of the Dicastery for Communication, emphasized the exhibition’s message that “every door can be opened,” urging visitors to embrace change as they contemplate the powerful images.
In addition to the visual display, attendees had the opportunity to watch the documentary ‘Green Lava’, shedding light on the story of Giacomo, a young man battling muscular dystrophy, and the supportive community around him. The subsequent panel discussion delved into the impact of storytelling on our lives, emphasizing the importance of sharing narratives of hope and resilience.
