The legacy of Mother Mary Angelica of the Annunciation, the foundress of EWTN, continues to impact and inspire spiritual renewals even nine years after her passing. Born Rita Antoinette Rizzo on April 20, 1923, Mother Angelica died on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016, at the age of 92 after battling the aftereffects of a stroke.
From humble beginnings in a garage in Alabama in 1981, Mother Angelica founded EWTN, which has now grown to become the largest religious media network globally. The network, which CNA is a part of, has touched countless lives and continues to spread the message of faith and hope.
Nine years on, viewers of EWTN are still sharing their personal stories of how Mother Angelica and the network have impacted their lives. Here are some heartwarming testimonials from viewers:
Daily Mass viewers
“EWTN has changed my life. I faithfully watch from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. every morning in Massachusetts. My father, who is 95 years old, lives in Maine. We watch daily Mass together through FaceTime and we discuss our thoughts on the homily for the day, every day. I was lost for many years and felt unworthy. EWTN is the vehicle that has taught me to forgive and learn to love myself. The greatest blessing I have received is from EWTN. I now feel at peace, feel hope, and I know that I am loved.”
“I just wanted to acknowledge how your EWTN network has blessed me. I am not Catholic, but [it] does not matter, I am a Christian. I am shut in and I tape your 8 a.m. morning Mass and watch it at 11 p.m. instead of the news.
Transforming Lives Through EWTN: Stories of Faith and Redemption
As a devout Catholic, I have always found solace and inspiration in the teachings of EWTN. The programs on this network have not only strengthened my faith but have also played a significant role in my spiritual journey. One of my favorite shows is Father [Mitch] Pacwa’s weekly program, where his insightful teachings never fail to resonate with me.
EWTN in Prison: A Beacon of Hope
Recently released from prison at the age of 42, I cannot emphasize enough the impact that EWTN has had on incarcerated individuals like myself. While behind bars, EWTN served as a beacon of hope, providing a source of spiritual nourishment and guidance. The programs, such as ‘Father Spitzer’s Universe’ and the rosary, played a crucial role in my reconnection with God and my faith. Thanks to EWTN, I was able to help fellow inmates discover these invaluable resources and witness the transformative power of faith. I even made my confirmation in prison, a milestone made possible by the support and teachings of EWTN.
EWTN in Schools: Fostering Spiritual Growth
As a substitute teacher, I have witnessed firsthand the positive impact of EWTN in schools. Whenever students work independently, I turn on EWTN on the school computers, allowing them to experience Mass and the Lord’s prayer in Latin through closed captioning. This practice not only fosters spiritual growth but also allows me to obtain graces through prayer. My admiration for Mother Angelica and the EWTN family knows no bounds, and I am eternally grateful for the spiritual nourishment they provide.
EWTN in RCIA Classes: A Path to Conversion
For years, I prayed fervently for my husband to convert to the Catholic faith. It was through EWTN’s programming and Sirius XM radio that he was inspired to join RCIA classes. Together, we are embarking on this spiritual journey, utilizing EWTN’s resources to deepen our knowledge and faith. The impact of EWTN in our lives has been profound, bringing us closer together and strengthening our bond through shared beliefs.
EWTN in the Hospital: A Source of Healing
During a challenging time in the hospital, EWTN became my lifeline. While battling a severe respiratory infection, I stumbled upon ‘Scripture and Tradition’ on EWTN, and the teachings of the Holy Spirit provided me with solace and healing. EWTN’s presence in moments of vulnerability and uncertainty has been a testament to the network’s ability to offer spiritual comfort and support.
These stories are just a few examples of the transformative power of EWTN in the lives of individuals across different walks of life. Through its diverse programming and unwavering commitment to spreading the message of faith, EWTN continues to be a guiding light for countless individuals seeking spiritual growth and redemption.
