
Welcome to the latest update from Vatican News! Today, we are excited to share the upcoming journey of Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Vatican’s Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, as he travels to Hungary for a significant commemoration event.
Archbishop Gallagher will be in Hungary from Thursday, 27 March, until Sunday, 30 March, to participate in the 60th anniversary commemoration of the death of Archbishop Angelo Rotta, who served as the Apostolic Nuncio to Budapest during the tumultuous years of World War II. Archbishop Rotta is well-known for his courageous efforts to protect Jews during the Holocaust and was posthumously honored as “Righteous Among the Nations” by Yad Vashem in 1995.
Archbishop Gallagher’s Itinerary
During his visit, Archbishop Gallagher will engage in a series of important meetings and events. His schedule includes a meeting with Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, on Friday, 28 March. He will also speak at the annual conference of Hungarian ambassadors and participate in the commemoration ceremony for Archbishop Rotta.
Additionally, Archbishop Gallagher will meet with Cardinal Péter Erdö and Bishop András Veres, along with other key prelates in Hungary. On Saturday, 29 March, he will visit the Benedictine Monastery of St. Martin in Pannonhalma and interact with students from the Pannonhalmi Bencés Gimnázium. The visit will conclude on Sunday, 30 March, with Archbishop Gallagher attending Mass at the Co-Cathedral of St. Stephen in Budapest.
