The 30th Anniversary of Pope St. John Paul II’s Encyclical ‘Evangelium vitae’
Today, on 25 March 2025, we commemorate the 30th anniversary of Pope St. John Paul II’s landmark Encyclical Letter ‘Evangelium vitae’ on the value and sanctity of human life. To mark this occasion, the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life has released a Pastoral Framework titled ‘Life is always a good,’ aimed at guiding and enhancing Church initiatives in promoting pastoral care of human life on a global scale.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Prefect of the Dicastery, emphasizes the importance of protecting life in all its forms, especially in a world plagued by conflicts, violence, and various human rights violations. The Pastoral Framework, available in English, Italian, and Portuguese, with French and Spanish versions coming soon, provides practical guidance on how to defend, safeguard, and promote human life in diverse cultural contexts.
Embracing a Culture of Life
By echoing the principles outlined in the recent Declaration ‘Dignitas infinita,’ Cardinal Farrell stresses the infinite dignity inherent in every individual, regardless of circumstances. He calls upon all members of the Church – bishops, priests, religious, and laity – to actively engage in promoting a culture of life that respects and upholds the sanctity of every human being.
The Pastoral Framework serves as a comprehensive resource for implementing initiatives that nurture a profound reverence for human life at every level of society. It encourages individuals to cultivate a mindset that values and protects life, equipping them with the necessary tools to educate and inspire others to do the same.
As we reflect on the profound teachings of ‘Evangelium vitae’ and its enduring relevance in today’s world, let us commit ourselves to championing the cause of human life and upholding its inherent dignity. Together, we can build a brighter future where every individual is valued, cherished, and protected.
