Israeli Forces Advance Deeper into Gaza: Latest Updates
On Sunday, Israeli forces pushed further into Gaza, surrounding the Tel al-Sultan neighborhood in Rafah. The offensive, which began on October 7, 2023, with the goal of targeting Hamas, has resulted in over 50,000 casualties in Gaza.
As the conflict escalates, troops raided a Hamas command center, eliminating “several” militants in an effort to dismantle terrorist infrastructure and expand the security zone. Videos captured residents fleeing the area, while IDF footage showed soldiers advancing with armored vehicles, engaging in combat in damaged buildings. Additionally, Israeli airstrikes targeted Hamas sites in Beit Hanoun, adding to the ongoing violence in the region.
Health officials in Gaza reported 41 fatalities and 61 injuries in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to a staggering 50,021. The renewed offensive marks the end of a two-month ceasefire, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirming his commitment to eradicating Hamas and securing the release of hostages.
Escalation in Southern Lebanon
In a related development, an Israeli drone strike in the southern Lebanese village of Aita al-Shaab resulted in one fatality on Sunday. This incident followed previous Israeli airstrikes in southern and eastern Lebanon, exacerbating tensions in the region.
Despite a ceasefire brokered by the U.S. and France on November 27, tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border remain high. The agreement, which brought an end to clashes between Israel and Hezbollah, is under strain as Israeli operations continue, citing ongoing “Hezbollah threats.”
