As we approach the 20th anniversary of Terri Schiavo’s passing on March 31, 2005, her brother Bobby Schindler reflects on the painful events that led to her tragic death. Schiavo’s feeding tube was removed, depriving her of food and hydration, ultimately causing her demise after 13 days.
Recalling the harrowing experience, Schindler expressed the ongoing difficulty of reliving his sister’s unjust and inhumane death. He emphasized that the only thing sustaining Terri was the basic necessity of food and water, which were cruelly taken away from her.
In an interview with “EWTN News Nightly” anchor Tracy Sabol, Schindler described the inhumane nature of Terri’s passing, likening it to a criminal act if done to an animal.
Following Terri Schiavo’s tragic death, Schindler founded the Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network to advocate for the dignity and rights of the medically vulnerable. The organization provides support to individuals and families facing similar situations, emphasizing the importance of essential human dignity values.
The Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network stands firm in its belief that food and water are fundamental and ordinary forms of care that should be universally recognized and protected. They offer crisis lifeline services and advocate for the preservation of life and dignity in all medical decisions.
