Commissioned by Cardinal Francesco Maria Del Monte in the late 16th century for his alchemy laboratory, this allegorical masterpiece was hidden from the world until its rediscovery in 1968. The mural depicts Jupiter, Neptune, and Pluto representing elements of nature in a celestial dance.
Visitors can witness Jupiter reaching out to move the celestial sphere, symbolizing the sun’s rotation around the earth. The vivid imagery and intricate details of the mural will transport you to a world of artistry and symbolism.
To explore this artistic treasure, visitors must make a prior reservation for guided tours on Saturdays and Sundays. The tour includes a viewing of the Caravaggio ceiling painting as well as a stunning fresco by Guercino of Aurora, the Roman goddess of dawn.
