Pope Francis has made a generous gesture by gifting the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom, bestowed upon him by former U.S. President Joe Biden, to the metropolitan cathedral of Buenos Aires.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest honor given to a civilian by the United States, and it was awarded to the Holy Father by President Biden before leaving office in January. The award recognizes individuals who have made exemplary contributions to various aspects of society and has only been given out 55 times.
In a statement, the White House highlighted Pope Francis’ dedication to serving the voiceless and vulnerable in Argentina and around the world. They described him as a loving pastor, a challenging teacher, and a welcoming leader who reaches out to people of all faiths.
President Biden praised Pope Francis for his humility, grace, and love for all. He referred to him as the People’s Pope, a beacon of faith, hope, and love that shines brightly across the globe.
This donation of the Presidential Medal of Freedom to the Buenos Aires cathedral is a symbol of Pope Francis’ commitment to serving others and spreading messages of peace and compassion.
