The Vatican Press Office has provided an update on Pope Francis’ health condition. The Pontiff has spent the day in prayer, rest, and undergoing therapies. His condition remains stable, and he is able to go without oxygen therapy at times.
After more than thirty days at the Gemelli Hospital, the Pope’s health shows slight improvements due to respiratory and motor therapy. The Press Office shared this information tonight, March 17.
No official medical bulletin has been released. However, it was explained that Pope Francis is using less high-flow oxygenation with nasal cannulas and can sometimes do without oxygen therapy. He uses non-invasive mechanical ventilation at night.
This explains why in the recently published photo from Sunday, March 16 – the first photo since his hospitalization – Pope Francis appeared without oxygen. The swelling in his hand noticed in the picture is due to reduced mobility, but it has already improved today.
The Pontiff’s day has been similar to yesterday’s: prayer, rest, and some work.
The next medical bulletin is scheduled for Wednesday. Tomorrow evening, the Press Office of the Holy See will provide some general information to journalists, as they did today.
