The Palestinian Ministry of Health has reported that among the casualties are civilians and children, with dozens more injured. The airstrikes have left local hospitals overwhelmed and medical supplies critically low, exacerbating the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Israeli authorities have justified the airstrikes by citing “unusual activity” in Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz have defended the military actions, vowing to continue until all Hamas-held hostages are released. Katz emphasized the military’s commitment, stating that they will not stop fighting until every objective of the war is achieved.
In response, Hamas has condemned the bombardment, accusing Netanyahu of issuing a “death sentence for the prisoners.” A senior Hamas official has also criticized the Israeli leader for using the war as a distraction from internal political crises, further fueling anger within Israel.
The Families Forum, Israel’s largest group representing the relatives of hostages, has called for an end to the violence and urged Netanyahu to “stop killing” their loved ones. They have requested an urgent meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss the safety of the hostages during the ongoing airstrikes.
According to the Hamas-run Health Ministry, the death toll in Gaza has now reached 45,000 since the hostilities began on October 7, 2023.
While the White House continues to express unwavering support for Israel, Pope Francis, from hospital, has once again emphasized the absurdity of war.
