Trump and Putin Discuss Ending the War in Ukraine
President Donald Trump has stated his intention to speak with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, tomorrow to discuss ending the war in Ukraine, as reported by US media outlets.
“I will talk to President Putin on Tuesday. We have worked a lot over the weekend,” Trump told reporters on Air Force One during a nighttime flight back from Florida to the Washington area. “We want to see if we can end this war. Maybe we will succeed, maybe not, but I think we have a great chance,” the tycoon added.
“We will talk about lands. We will talk about power plants,” Trump said when asked about concessions. “I think we have already discussed a lot from both sides, Ukraine and Russia. We are already talking about it, dividing some assets.”
“We will see if we have something to announce, maybe by Tuesday (tomorrow),” added the American president, as reported by CNN.
Subsequently, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that a telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump is being prepared for tomorrow. This was reported by the Ria Novosti agency.
The spokesman did not provide details on the topics that will be discussed between the American and Russian presidents, after Trump, announcing the call first, said that the two leaders would talk “about lands” and “power plants.”
“The conversation is indeed being prepared,” Peskov stated, “but in our view, of course, a conversation between two presidents is not subject to any significant discussion beforehand. Therefore, we will not do it.”
Kremlin Warns Against European Military Deployment in Ukraine
Discussions in European countries, particularly in France, about possible military deployment in Ukraine represent “a highly dangerous trend,” stated Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. The deployment of NATO troops will create “additional underlying causes of the conflict,” he added, as cited by Ria Novosti agency. The European Union is artificially creating a “Russian threat” to justify the “militarization” of Europe, according to Peskov.
No Set Date Yet for Putin and Trump Meeting
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov mentioned that there are no indications yet of when Russian President Vladimir Putin and American President Donald Trump could meet in person. “It is still impossible to talk about timing because there are no clues. If the presidents decide,” Peskov said in a television interview quoted by Tass, “then, of course, the meeting will be prepared within the timeframes set by the heads of state themselves. But for now, we are awaiting the telephone conversation.”
