Exciting developments in the world of Rai nominations! While there are still a few details to iron out, it is now expected that CEO Giampaolo Rossi will present the resumes of the directors, at least those of the editorial boards, at the board meeting on March 20.
The negotiations to reach an agreement among the majority parties have seen positive results in recent hours. However, the appointment of the president of the public television remains blocked in the Supervisory Committee. The urgency was to decide on the interim editorial boards. Thus, at Tg3, it was decided to confirm Pierluca Terzulli, from the dem area, but also appreciated by the rest of the opposition. Similarly, continuity was maintained at Tgr, where Roberto Pacchetti will be appointed, pleasing the League. The editorial board had caught the attention of Brothers of Italy, who managed to secure Gr Radio: Nicola Rao, currently in charge of Communications, replacing Francesco Pionati upon his retirement in July. A recent development is the green light given by the Prime Minister’s party for the replacement of Paolo Petrecca, who was ousted by the Rainews editorial team and is now set to take over Rai Sport on an interim basis. Federico Zurzolo from Forza Italia will join the all-news network. The party also places Maria Rita Grieco, the current deputy director of Tg1, at Rai Italia in place of the retiring Fabrizio Ferragni. This package is expected to be presented to the board on Thursday, with other appointments already decided.
The League, losing control of Gr, is expected to appoint Williams Di Liberatore as the Prime Time director, replacing Marcello Ciannamea. The CEO aims to position Stefano Coletta as the new Head of Programming Coordination, especially with the League’s resistance to his appointment now subsiding. The League has also secured the leadership of Rai Cultura with Fabrizio Zappi replacing Silvia Calandrelli, who will move to Rai Sostenibilità. Giovanni Alibrandi will take over Radio 2 from Simona Sala, who will likely move to Radio 3, where Andrea Montanari is nearing retirement. Andrea Vianello is also awaiting assignment. Zappi will vacate Rai Documentaries for Luigi Del Plavignano, from Forza Italia, who will also appoint Franco Argenzian as the head of Radio Broadcasting, replacing Flavio Mucciante. The CEO is leaning towards Andrea Sassano for that role, the current director of Rai Teche. Angelo Mellone is likely to remain at Day Time, and Paolo Corsini will continue with In-Depth Analysis, both from Fdi.
At Rai Fiction, Anna Maria Ammirati is set to stay, pleasing the opposition. However, there is tension in the minority parties. The rumors of an agreement within the majority have caused dismay, as all parties were hoping for the resumption of the Supervisory Committee’s activities (and potentially the dialogue on the presidency) and an acceleration in governance reform, currently stalled in the Senate Committee. In the Democratic Party, Sandro Ruotolo, the party’s information officer, protests. “Teleradiomeloni: after the news, they’ve taken the Gr too,” he emphasizes. “They are now broadcasting on unified channels. The Brothers and Giorgia Meloni’s cousins are taking over all of Rai, even though they have not yet been able to elect a president.” “We consider it unacceptable,” warn M5s parliamentarians in Supervision, “that appointments critical to the company’s future are made in Rai without the CEO first responding to the request to appear before the Supervisory Committee for a hearing.”
