During the 69th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women on March 13, 2025, Gabriella Gambino, Under-Secretary-General of the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life, highlighted the ongoing need for true equality between men and women despite progress being made.
Gambino stressed the importance of recognizing the equal dignity of every human being across all sectors of society. She noted that eradicating poverty and ensuring universal access to education are crucial steps towards achieving gender equality. Additionally, she emphasized the significance of a cultural shift that values women’s roles in the family, underscoring that motherhood should be viewed as a valuable contribution to society rather than an obstacle.
Gambino’s address coincided with the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, echoing Pope Francis’s plea for providing equal opportunities for women as a foundation for a more inclusive and sustainable future.
