The Zumuntan Mata Convention Celebrates Women’s Empowerment and Community Service
Recently, the Zumuntan Mata Convention brought together women from the Kaduna ecclesiastical province for a meeting held at the St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Malumfashi, Katsina. The event was a resounding success, with women from various dioceses within the province, including Kaduna, Minna, Zaria, Kontagora, Kano, Kafanchan, and Sokoto, in attendance.
During the opening ceremonies, Fr. Mathias Anyip and eight other priests celebrated Holy Mass, with Fr. James Gajere delivering a powerful homily emphasizing the importance of faithfulness to God at all times. Bishop Gerald Mamman Musa of Katsina Diocese, as the host Bishop, also celebrated Mass for the women and encouraged them in their mission and fellowship. Additionally, a visiting team from Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) attended the convention.
Empowering Women and Families
The convention featured a range of topics and presentations, including a discussion on Hepatitis B by Ms. Florence Sawuta, covering symptoms, causes, preventive measures, and modes of transmission of the infectious disease that affects the liver. Other discussions centered on the evolving role of women in the family, emphasizing the Christian family’s duty to transmit faith to children.
The highlight of the event was the inauguration of the Zumuntan Mata’s new executive team, with Chief Mrs. Elizabeth Lazarus Audu from Minna Diocese unveiled as the new leader.
Who are Zumunta Mata?
Zumunta Mata is a Catholic women’s organization in Nigeria dedicated to promoting spiritual growth, empowerment, and community service among its members. The group, which means “Women’s Association” in the Hausa language, provides a platform for Catholic women to come together, share experiences, and support each other in their faith journey. With a presence in various dioceses across Nigeria, Zumunta Mata has been empowering women for several decades.
The organization’s objectives include promoting Christian values, fostering unity and solidarity among members, and engaging in charitable activities that benefit the community. Members participate in prayer meetings, Scripture sharing, and community service projects, developing leadership skills and taking on active roles in their parishes and communities.
Membership is open to all Catholic women committed to the organization’s values and objectives, providing a supportive community for women to thrive and make a difference.
