Timed to coincide with International Women’s Day on March 8, the Weavers of Hope Award aims to spotlight the transformative work of women at the grassroots level. Open to all organizations and projects that empower vulnerable women and girls, the award was inspired by the Jubilee Year of Hope and the need to acknowledge the crucial role that women play in building hope worldwide.
Despite facing various challenges such as limited access to education and opportunities, as well as injustices like under-age marriages, women continue to persevere and inspire hope. Stephanie MacGillivray, a Senior Officer at Caritas Internationalis, emphasized the importance of investing in women’s empowerment, stating that progress is impossible without adequate resources.
The Weavers of Hope Award aims to kickstart new projects and sustain existing initiatives. Building on the success of a booklet published by Caritas Internationalis last year, titled Equality, Encounter, Renewal, the award provides a practical way to empower women at the grassroots level.
While the award is a new initiative, it seeks to celebrate the ongoing efforts of organizations worldwide that are dedicated to empowering women. Four organizations or projects will receive a one-year grant at the end of 2025, providing them with the resources needed to make a lasting impact.
MacGillivray highlighted the importance of collaboration in achieving meaningful change for women, emphasizing the need for organizations to work together towards shared goals. By supporting each other and showcasing the vital role of women in society, we can create a brighter future for all.
