Starlink and NATO
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and a collaborator of Trump, recently made comments on X, his own social platform, regarding Starlink and NATO. This sparked reactions from Poland, which is considering not paying for Starlink if it’s deemed “unreliable”, and in Italy, where opposition parties are urging Prime Minister Meloni to distance herself from the billionaire.
Starlink, “backbone of the Ukrainian army”
Elon Musk claimed on X that the Starlink system is the “backbone” of the Ukrainian army and that if he were to deactivate it, the frontline of the Ukrainian forces would collapse. Musk, a close ally of Donald Trump, expressed his concerns about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and emphasized the importance of ending the violence. He stated, “Anyone who truly cares about the issue, reflects deeply, and wants this meat grinder to stop. Peace now.”

Following Elon Musk’s statements about Starlink being the “backbone” of the Ukrainian army, opposition parties in Italy, starting with the Democratic Party secretary Elly Schelin, have criticized the government.
Starlink terminals played a crucial role in safeguarding communications during the war in Ukraine, with approximately 42,000 terminals operational last year across military, hospital, business, and humanitarian organizations in the country, as reported by Sky News.
The Polish government, which pays for Starlink services in Ukraine, indicated that it might seek alternative internet providers if Elon Musk’s company proves to be “unreliable”. Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski stated, “If SpaceX proves to be an unreliable supplier, we will be forced to look for other providers.”
