As the weekend approaches, the latest update from the Holy See Press Office brings news of Pope Francis’ stable clinical condition as he receives treatment for pneumonia at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital.
Amidst a backdrop of rest and prayer, Pope Francis is currently under medical care at the hospital, where he has been since February 14. The Press Office confirmed on Friday evening that the Pope is undergoing treatment, including respiratory physiotherapy. He is using non-invasive mechanical ventilation at night and high-flow oxygen therapy during the day.
The Pope took a moment for prayer in the hospital chapel on the tenth floor and continued with work-related activities throughout the day. While his health condition remains stable within a complex situation, the prognosis is still guarded. No medical bulletin will be issued on Friday evening, but a new update is expected on Saturday, March 8.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Pope Francis had a restful night and woke up in the morning. Press Office Director Matteo Bruni mentioned that the Pope himself insisted on sending an audio message of gratitude for the prayers and support he has received during his hospitalization.
The Rosary prayers in St. Peter’s Square continue as a gesture of spiritual solidarity. The twelfth gathering is scheduled for 9 p.m. local time, led by Cardinal Lazzaro Heung-sik You, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Clergy.
