During his recent visit to Washington, D.C., Bishop Robert Barron delivered a powerful message to Catholic politicians, urging them to integrate their faith into their public roles.
“EWTN News Nightly” Capitol Hill correspondent Erik Rosales had the opportunity to interview Barron before the bishop conducted Mass at the Capitol for lawmakers on March 4, just before President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress.
Barron, known for founding the nonprofit global media apostolate Word on Fire, emphasized the importance of Catholic politicians not leaving their faith behind when making decisions in the public sphere.
“We don’t impose the faith,” Barron stated. “We propose. But they should bring their faith into the public square.”
He continued, “It’s not the case that we’re to sequester faith simply into the privacy of our conscience. No, it’s a public reality, and it should inform the decisions that they make here.”
Barron, with over 1.8 million followers on his YouTube channel where he addresses faith, culture, and politics, is a prominent figure among American bishops. He serves as the chair of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life, and Youth.
His presence at the joint session of Congress was at the invitation of Rep. [Name], showcasing the significance of integrating faith into public service.
