Welcome to our blog post where we delve into a beautiful reflection on the biblical episode of Jesus lost and found in the temple, from the cycle of catechesis on the Childhood of Jesus by Pope Francis.
As Pope Francis continues his hospitalization at the Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome, since last February 14, we are privileged to share with you the text of his catechesis prepared for the General Audience of February 26, 2025.

Cycle of Catechesis – Jubilee 2025. Jesus Christ our Hope. I. The Infancy of Jesus. 8. “Son, why have you done this to us?” (Lk 2:49). The finding of Jesus in the Temple
Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!
Let’s explore the profound dialogue between Mary and Jesus as they navigate the challenges of the journey of the mother of Jesus. Mary’s pilgrimage of hope unfolds as she grows in her understanding of the mystery of her Son, from His birth in Bethlehem to His ministry and beyond.
Mary, the first disciple of Jesus, exemplifies a unique communion with the Word of God, nurturing Him and following Him on His path. Her encounter with the twelve-year-old Jesus in the temple reveals a moment of tension as she grapples with the mystery of God made child.
Despite the initial confusion, Mary and Joseph come to realize that Jesus is called to fulfill His vocation as the Son of the Father, immersed in His Word. This episode marks a pivotal moment in the infancy narratives, highlighting the divine paternity and Jesus’ recognition of His heavenly Father.
As we reflect on Mary and Joseph’s journey of faith, let us also embark on our own path, guided by hope and love. Just as Jesus was found in the temple, may we too discover the presence of God in our response of filial love to His tender divine paternity.
