Pope Francis Resting Well After Respiratory Insufficiencies
Good news from the Vatican as Pope Francis spent a peaceful night after experiencing two respiratory insufficiencies on Monday. The Holy See Press Office confirmed that the Pontiff slept well and continues to rest.
Since February 14, Pope Francis has been under treatment for bilateral pneumonia at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital. On Monday, he faced two episodes of acute respiratory insufficiency due to an accumulation of endobronchial mucus leading to bronchospasm. Doctors performed bronchoscopies to address the issue and resumed non-invasive mechanical ventilation in the afternoon.
Despite the challenges, Pope Francis remained alert, oriented, and cooperative. Fortunately, blood tests revealed no signs of a new respiratory infection as his white blood cell count remains normal. However, his clinical condition is still complex, and further respiratory crises cannot be ruled out.
While the Pope’s doctors maintain a guarded prognosis, the entire world continues to send prayers and well-wishes for his speedy recovery.
