The primatial archbishop of Mexico, Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes, has renewed the mission of Father Eduardo Chávez, known as the leading expert on the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and urged him to continue spreading the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe on a global scale.
In a letter received by Chávez on March 1, Cardinal Aguiar highlighted the upcoming 500th anniversary of the apparitions of the Virgin of Guadalupe in 2031 and stressed the importance of delving deeper into and sharing the truth of the Guadalupan event, emphasizing its message of love and mercy not only for Mexico but for the whole world.
Chávez currently holds the position of canon and magisterial theologian at the Guadalupe basilica and serves as the director of the Higher Institute of Guadalupan Studies. He has also worked as the postulator for the canonization of St. Juan Diego, the visionary of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Cardinal Aguiar wrote in his letter, “Following the guidance of Pope Francis and your role as Guadalupan magisterial theologian appointed by the chapter of the Shrine of the Holy Mary of Guadalupe, I reaffirm your mission, Canon Dr. Eduardo Chávez Sánchez, to continue deepening the understanding of the Guadalupan event, providing training for educators, and spreading the message worldwide.”
“May God, the Virgin of Guadalupe, and St. [add name here] guide and bless you in this important mission,” the Cardinal concluded.
