Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude towards the United States for their support, stating, “You helped us survive.” This comes in response to accusations from Trump and his vice, JD Vance, of being “ungrateful.” Zelensky directly addressed the American people and Congress during an interview on conservative network Fox News, emphasizing that he does not believe he needs to apologize to the president for their heated exchange at the White House, although he acknowledges it was a “rough moment.”
Zelensky highlighted the importance of American assistance in countering Russia and expressed the need for security guarantees to maintain the partnership with Washington. While seeking a more conciliatory tone, he firmly stated that without security assurances, no agreement can be reached.

“No one desires peace more than us,” Zelensky assured, “but a ceasefire without security guarantees from the United States is a very delicate matter for my people.” Regarding Trump’s relationship with Vladimir Putin, Zelensky carefully expressed his preference for the American president to support Ukraine more than Russia, as it is Russia that brought war to their doorstep.
The Ukrainian president also addressed calls for his resignation from Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a former supporter. Zelensky emphasized that only Ukrainians can decide his future, urging Americans to focus on their own presidential choices. He expressed confidence in repairing the relationship with Trump, calling it a historic bond between two nations.

Prior to the interview airing, Donald Trump, en route to Mar-a-Lago, criticized Zelensky for wanting to continue “fighting, fighting, fighting” and for “overestimating the cards in his hand.” Trump warned that for negotiations to resume, the Ukrainian president must declare his desire for peace and an immediate ceasefire.
Meanwhile, an administration official informed the Washington Post that the commander-in-chief is considering halting all ongoing military aid shipments to Ukraine, affecting billions of dollars’ worth of radar, vehicles, ammunition, and missiles awaiting dispatch to the country.
