Pope Francis Resting and Recovering
Good news from the Vatican as Pope Francis is reported to have slept well and is currently resting, according to a statement from the Holy See Press Office on Saturday morning.
“After a quiet night, the Pope is resting,” read the brief statement released by the Holy See Press Office.
An earlier statement issued on Friday evening had mentioned that the Pope’s respiratory condition had worsened due to an isolated bronchospasm. He was promptly put on non-invasive mechanical ventilation, to which he responded positively.
Thanks to this treatment, the gas exchange values have returned to normal levels. However, it will take about 24 to 48 hours to fully assess the Pope’s clinical condition following the bronchospasm episode.
The Pope is currently being treated for bilateral pneumonia at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital. He was admitted on Friday, 14th February, after developing a respiratory tract infection.
We continue to keep Pope Francis in our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.
