Embracing Lent in Ethiopia
As Christians of the Ge’ez rite in Ethiopia and Eritrea embark on their Lenten journey this week, they enter a period of 55 days of fasting and prayer. Unlike other Christian traditions, this fasting period involves abstaining from all animal products. The faithful will culminate their Lenten observance with the joyous celebration of Fasika, marking the Resurrection of Christ with festive meals and gatherings.
