PhotoANSA has landed in Europe.
On the third anniversary of the Russian aggression in Ukraine, the photographic book of ANSA, which is also celebrating the agency’s 80th anniversary this year, was presented at the residence of the Italian ambassador in Belgium, Federica Favi. This event took place at a time when Europe is facing significant geopolitical upheavals, shaken by the choices of the new US administration and grappling with the ongoing struggle against Russian disinformation. The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, addressed this topic during the presentation.
“Today, more than ever, in the era of the digital revolution, the fight against disinformation has become a central challenge for our democracies,” she emphasized in her message to the event. Among the attendees were ANSA CEO Stefano De Alessandri, Director Luigi Contu, NATO Military Committee Chairman Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, DG Mena Director General of the European Commission Stefano Sannino, Socialist MEP Lucia Annunziata, and Co-Chair of the Conservative Eurogroup Nicola Procaccini.

The former Chief of Staff of the Italian Navy, addressing questions from the stage, discussed the future of NATO in the Trump era. “We are coming from a very intense week. What I recommended to my headquarters is to see what happens now: we have received some expected inputs, but perhaps in a very rapid timeframe. A stir has been raised,” admitted the Admiral, “but now we wait for the dust to settle. Certainly, there has been a wake-up call, and now we must also think about our position, but our alliance is very strong and cohesive.” According to Cavo Dragone, “Putin will try to sell us a victory that is not real: however, Trump is right that so far we have been muddling through under the American umbrella financially and operationally.” “We need to wake up our defense industry: we are certainly not in a peaceful situation,” he added.
Regarding the possibility of a European peacekeeping force in Ukraine, Cavo Dragone warned, “It should not be a second Sarajevo.” On the defense front, Lucia Annunziata stated, “At the moment, only England, France, and Germany are able to set the agenda on this issue. Unfortunately, Italy is not among them because, at this point, it is not clear what cards our Prime Minister intends to play.” Then Nicola Procaccini commented on the German election result from yesterday. “I see a continuity with what has happened everywhere in the last 5 years: the left has lost, and the center-right has won, albeit with different articulations. There is a criticism of leftist policies by the populations. The CDU wins because it has moved even further to the right.” Finally, Procaccini took a jab at the German far-right party: “The international positioning of the AfD is frankly unsustainable. Their views on the Putin regime are incomprehensible.”
