Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem recently shed light on the challenging circumstances faced by Palestinian Christians during a screening of the film “Via Dolorosa” at the United Nations on Feb. 18.
The documentary showcases the Christian community in Palestine, narrated from their own perspective, capturing significant moments that have defined their history, resilience, and cultural identity.
Commending the film, the patriarch expressed gratitude to the World Council of Churches and the Permanent Observer Mission of the State of Palestine, along with other international organizations for their support, as reported by the World Council of Churches.
Addressing the economic challenges faced by Palestinian Christians, the patriarch highlighted the impact of decreased pilgrimages, job scarcity, and unstable security conditions in the region.
Filmmaker Amira Hanania spoke passionately about the documentary, emphasizing that it presents a unique perspective on the history of Palestinian Christianity, free from distortion or erasure, showcasing the community’s role in the pursuit of justice.
During the event, Father Ibrahim Faltas, vicar of the Custody of the Holy Land, referred to the documentary as a representation of the Via Dolorosa for every Christian in Palestine, symbolizing the ongoing struggle and sorrow experienced by the community.
