Gisèle Pelicot is an “ordinary woman who acted extraordinarily in the face of personal tragedy.” This is the motivation behind the U.S. magazine Time’s decision to include the 72-year-old French woman in its list of personalities recognized as ‘Woman of the Year 2025’.
The decision of Gisèle Pelicot to refuse a closed-door trial for those who had raped her for years and therefore give up her right to anonymity has made her “a global heroine,” the magazine writes.
Pelicot shares the recognition with twelve other women, including actress Nicole Kidman, gymnast Jordan Chiles, and basketball player A’ja Wilson. Their stories will be featured in the upcoming Time issue on March 10.
