In the aftermath of the 2024 election and with Republicans holding full control of the government, social conservatives at the 2025 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) are excited to shift from defense to offense on key policy issues.
Mercedes Schlapp, a senior fellow at the American Conservative Union (ACU) Foundation, believes that the demise of wokeism and gender ideology played a significant role in President Trump’s victory and the Republican success.
“Trump’s focus on common sense regarding gender has resonated with parents, especially Catholic and Christian parents, who want to protect their children,” Schlapp noted.
Michael Knowles, a Catholic political commentator for The Daily Wire, emphasized Trump’s popular vote win as a mandate for common sense and highlighted the importance of rejecting gender ideology during his campaign.

Since assuming office, various executive actions have been taken to put an end to federal policies that have been in place.
Pope Francis has recently made headlines by referring to gender ideology as “one of the most dangerous ideological colonizations” present in the world today.
Commenting on the rise of transgenderism in recent years, Knowles stated that this concept was not a part of public life before and that the imposition of “LGBT gender-bending ideology” was forcefully introduced to society, only to be rejected by the majority of voters.
He further emphasized that American society has traditionally been deeply rooted in faith and belief in God. He expressed concern over the current secularist trends, referring to them as an “aberration and a national scandal” that require immediate reversal. Knowles pointed out the presence of references to God in the Declaration of Independence, on American currency, and in the full version of the national anthem.
According to Knowles, religion is not merely a private matter but a public right that should be respected and upheld in society.
